Cost Accountant

Job Summary

The Cost Accountant supports the finance department by preparing, analyzing, reporting and auditing production costing transactions in a manner that results in accurate profitability data by job, product or customer. Provides information and support to internal and external customers in a timely and meaningful fashion. Performs job cost and costing rate analysis. Prepares, analyzes, and reviews the costing system to make recommended changes to standard direct and indirect cost center rates. Assists the Controller with the annual financial audit and annual budget process. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, validate and account for the costing of production jobs and development projects as part of the month-end close.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of Raw/WIP/FG inventory valuation.
  • Assist with external audits, provide the requested information and minimize risk on non-compliance.
  • Coordinate and manage the annual physical inventory taking at the plant and ensuring accuracy of the physical inventory and reported results. Investigate and explain book to physical adjustments
  • Provide, analyze and report relevant data to assist the Controller with the annual budget process. The information must be accurate and up-to-date and provide management with the information necessary to make the decisions required to maximize future results.
  • Provide financial analysis and reports, both solicited and unsolicited, that aides management in assessing past and future financial results. The analysis and reports must be accurate and timely to enable appropriate management action. This requires the ability to analyze data and design reports. Extensive use of data mining and reporting tools is required

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at LTS’s facility.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Major – Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience in a complex manufacturing environment; experience in a cGMP or med device/pharma manufacturing environment preferred.

Preferred Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to ensure accurate and meaningful financial data.
  • Accounting systems, procedures and controls including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Inventory to ensure accurate and meaningful information.
  • The manufacturing processes, including a thorough understanding of the inputs (raw material, direct labor, indirect overhead, bill of material yield changes and allowances)
  • Supply chain, receiving, inventory flow from incoming through shipment of product.
  • Computer systems used to ensure accurate processing of and controls of accounting transactions.
  • Commonly accepted rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to communicate effectively.

  • Exceptional time management and verbal and written communication skills
  • Efficient proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, lookups and other advanced functions and formulas.
  • Extensive use of data mining and reporting tools is required.
